Wee Check Gallus Wallcovering

Gallus (GAL-us) Scots Slang, especially used in Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Meaning bold, cheeky, confident, or mischievous. A hallmark of Glasgow Style, the artistic movement which enveloped the Glasgow Girls’, their iconic check became a rhythmic, abstract motif carried throughout much of their work. Distinctive balance of order and fluidity: the disciplined geometry of the check grounds the composition, while the organic motifs introduce movement and symbolism. Interplaying decorative and strikingly modern styles, Iona’s interpretation of the Glasgow Style check shares the a combined sense of geometric organisation and asymmetrical whimsy. A tribute to the natural humour of the people of Glasgow
