Call me crazy, which is quite possibly a fair observation, yet I've come to identify many motions associated with life as a designer to be very similar to Pythagorean theorum. That and reverse parking... bear with me.

As a high school mathematics student, whilst I successfully learned the theories conjured up by Pythagoras and his trigonometric, algebraic friends, this did not justify true understanding of each lesson. With relative speed and a huge sense of relief came each light bulb moment. As soon as my mind engaged with problem solving aspects and underlying theories, each process married to form perfect sense.

Similarly, learning to drive in an estate car - as well as being hugely uncool in the eyes of my seventeen year old self - it made reverse parking seem an impossibility akin to driving a double decker bus with a caravan attached. Noticing my fright at the mere suggestion, my saintly instructor developed a sequence of manoeuvres involving a sticker on the rear window of the car and a very precise sequence of steering wheel rotations. Hey presto, call me Louisa Hamilton, I nailed those corners every single time. However, it wasn't until leaping like a frisky salmon into my very first car that the bubble burst. I couldn't actually park, not even in a car half the length of my beloved estate car. A spell of perseverance and practice later, proportions and spacial awareness enlightened me to the world of driving backwards as well as forwards.

Encapsulated in the world of design is a process. From idea to concept, concept to manufacture, manufacture to install... and all the glorious complexities interspersed throughout the journey. Ensuring a streamlined sequence of processes gives us inherent confidence in the outcomes and, in turn, gives our clients a confidence in us.

At the heart of each manufacturing framework are the magnificent partners with whom we work to translate our (very often ambitious) design concepts into tangible, timeless and ultimately beautiful pieces. Be it plush printed velvets, pleated silks, contract spec vinyl wallcoverings, delicate lighting, upholstered furniture, domestic wallpapers, elegant madras and lace sheers, brand new *soon to be revealed* things of gorgeousness... We employ the exemplary skills of many, many masters without whom our concepts would represent a gigantically assortment of creative eccentricity.

We love, and I mean seriously love, to fully immerse ourselves in the processes each manufacturing partner undertake. From start to finish and every precious tea break along the way - thanks for the Jaffa Cakes John! Mesmerising, enlightening, awe-inspiring. To engage is to learn and every day is a joy on this creative curve.

Inspired by the beautiful old doors assembled by Iona's farmer father to protect his newborn lambs from the elements, the Secret Door Collection evolved from an arts series made during a Spring spell in the lambing shed.

Fruits of the Scottish elements, the series interprets the rusting, crackling, decaying beauty, and the honest purpose of the doors. The delicate, tactile surface sensitive to their purpose as a sheild for the precious lives behind.

Whipping up breakfast with this guy watching over is a recipe for the fluffiest pancakes and dreamiest eggs. Like an trusty old friend, Finn has grown with us. Beginning life as an enormous painted canvas, the original artwork depicting his majestic stature now hangs within a client's London townhouse.

Finn's legacy lives on, existing in printed form to journey across continents and through time zones. Capturing the highland hearts and interior imaginations of many a rogue.

Upon luscious luxe velvet to adorn a headboard, faithful armchair or curtain cascade. Decadently dark wall covering exuding soul, richness and refined eccentricity within a familiar surround.

Mystery, intrigue and discovery form the foundations for so many design concepts. Inspired by exploration and challenged perceptions with a sprinkling of satire.

Why would you adorn the walls of a dark, eerie basement space with tactile, whimsical wallpaper inspired by an entanglement of secret garden hose pipes.... Then again, why wouldn't you?

The mid point in a project. Dust casting a veil over every surface, plaster encrusted on your favourite old trainers and energy levels flagging. Like any half way juncture in a momentous endeavour - although it may involve a little imagination and a push of the pause button - clutching a window to breath it all in, reflect on the evolution and bask in the glory of what's soon to unfold, well, it's a precious, fleeting moment.

A decade, ten years, 315 360 000 seconds and a cornucopia of colourful adventures, magnificently inspiratonal introductions, Champagne popping lightbulb moments - each with a bright tale of their own effervescence - and more stationary malfuncions than you could shake a Sharpie at. Our brand has blossomed and evolved, aquainting itself with a host of diverse industries and  exceptional individuals. Now, at the first gas station on the highway to wherever the world of contemporary design and creative expression takes us, we are perusing the muticolour carnival of colour on the shelves and filling our glove box with rhubarb and custards, pink shrimps, salted caramel dark chocolate everything, and the finest bottled water to ever be branded as Scottish.

Edging ever closer to a decade behind the wheel of our zero gravity, intricately hand stitched, E-Type inspired mode of transport, the most valuable lesson learned has been the joy found in diversity and discovery. Embracing the innovative and the timeless, transforming challenges into skills most familiar, and staying true to our values as we go.

At this juncture, it struck as the perfect time to refurbish our exterior and inject our engines with all the newfangled nuggets of goodness required for the next leg, via a plethora of magnificent ports along the way. It is, therefore, with exceptional excitement, and technical wizardry in abundance in the hands of our skilled web developers, we are delighted to unveil our shiny new website.

Coming very soon will be the addition of the Iona Crawford Atelier aspect of our website where industry clients, brand partners and inquisitive souls alike can explore our project portfolio and find out more about the many diverse aspects of our design consultancy.

In the meantime, hop behind the controls and take our baby for a spin. We'd love to hear what you think.
